Mahmud of Ghazni and Malik Ayaz.
Mahmud of Ghazni founded the Ghaznavid Empire and ruled as a sultan. He fell in love with Malik Ayaz, a Turkish slave, and their relationship became the epitome of idealized love in Islamic legend and Sufi literature. As the story goes, Ayaz asked Mahmud who the most powerful man in the kingdom was. When the sultan replied that it was himself, Ayaz corrected him, claiming that in fact Ayaz was the most powerful, since Mahmud was his slave. The “slave to a slave” became a favorite trope in Persian literature. R.G.L.

The Best Birth Control In The World Is For Men by Jon Clinkenbeard
If I were going to describe the perfect contraceptive, it would go something like this: no babies, no latex, no daily pill to remember, no hormones to interfere with mood or sex drive, no negative health effects whatsoever, and 100 percent effectiveness. The funny thing is, something like that currently exists.
The procedure called RISUG in India (reversible inhibition of sperm under guidance) takes about 15 minutes with a doctor, is effective after about three days, and lasts for 10 or more years…
Oh, and when you do decide you want those babies, it only takes one other injection of water and baking soda to flush out the gel, and within two to three months, you’ve got all your healthy sperm again.
The trouble is, most people don’t even know this exists. And if men only need one super-cheap shot every 10 years or more, that’s not something that gets big pharmaceutical companies all fired up, because they’ll make zero money on it (even if it might have the side benefit of, you know, destroying HIV).

Pull up the self publishing zinesters
So, once when I was selling one of my zines in Baltimore at a zine fest I asked a fellow zine maker China Marten (creator of Mamaphiles) why there were no zines about Fathers and she responded with “why dont you make one”. A couple of years later I found out about RAD DAD an awesome zine about fathers. And not just dads, but men of color, queer dads, activist dads, musician and artist dads, and it included creative writing and illustration?! So then I met the creator Tomas Moniz and he was not only awesome, but he invited me to contribute! More on that later, but for now he mentioned something about turning it into something more dads could get a hold of. Think it’s worth it? I do.
In light of the fact that 8 out of 10 of my closest homeboys over the years has either had a fucked up or non existent relationship w/ their father and you get a serious need for “action” and a will to break the unhealthy cycles of the past.
